In 1952 National Secretaries Day was created to recognize secretaries for their contribution in the workplace. Its name was changed to Administrative Professionals Week in 2000 to include a wider range of support staff, but many still refer to it by its former name.
The 2007 theme is Shaping the Future. Many administrative professionals are important decision makers, trainers, initiators, and innovators. Since they now perform duties far beyond clerical tasks, their gifts should reflect this diversity.
Administrative Professionals Week, April 22-28 this year, is frequently commemorated by company events, observances, luncheons, educational or training events, sometimes even a day off on that Wednesday, Administrative Professionals Day. But many administrative professionals admit that they enjoy being remembered with flowers, a card, gift or a gift basket.
Here’s where you come in.
Even though this observance has grown in popularity, many managers wait until the last minute to decide on their gifts. You can help them save face and take care of this important task in a timely manner.
Approach the small to large companies in your area this week with suggestions for gift baskets. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
1. Office Survival Kit—(Pictured above) Regardless of duties, professionals spend many hours in their offices. Think of gift items that can make their day less stressful and can take care of the spills and stains that happen just before meetings. Gift suggestions: desktop fountain, tea, stain remover, moistened towelettes or waterless sanitizer, first aid items and of course energy snacks. Imprinted ribbon is part of the bow.
2. To A Souper Person—An oversized mug full of soup fixings is a welcomed gift for anyone who missed lunch to finish reports or attend meetings.
3. The more your client knows about the hobbies and interests of the recipient, the more appropriate and welcomed the gift basket will be. Also suggest customized ribbon and personalized gifts.
